Filtering The Bad Apples

Updated: Jul 16, 2019

Today I will be talking about the unavoidable. Bad people. Everyone will come across them at times, and they can really bring us down sometimes. But we need to learn and realize how to keep ourselves on the highways, so the bad apples fall into the sewers.

1. Think of the bad people. You would never want to act or be like them, right? So we can use that to our advantage, by using those people as role models to show us how NOT to act. We can work to acquire traits like kindness, friendliness, being understanding, caring for ourselves and others, letting go and moving on, honesty, and many other things.

2. Learn not to care. These bad people are out to hurt you. Why should their opinions matter to you? The comments and suggestions you take to heart should come from the people that you know care about you. Yes, no matter who says certain things, they could still hurt you, but you have to think about the intention of the comment. If it is a person who isn't too kind to you, then they probably want to hurt you. Don't let them get the satisfaction of seeing the damage they have done. Instead, let it go.

3. Keep away. Try not to put yourself in situations that cause you to spend time with bad people. Yes, you need to learn to work with others, and to get used to people you don't like, but don't go out of your way to hang out with bad apples. These people can be annoying, and their presence can hinder your work. If possible, try to keep focused and away from them in group projects, meetings, and social situations.

4. Kill them with kindness. It really works! Don't be over-the-top, sickly sweet kind, but just polite and decent, like you would treat a stranger. Hold doors, compliment them, and hope that your good attitude and maturity will rub off on them a little.

Overall, bad people can harm you, be annoying, but also can become role models for the less ideal you. Keep them away when possible, and keep yourself protected. Learning to deal with these people is key, as there will always be someone you don't like, or is mean. Try to stay positive, and remember that all experiences are learning experiences!

The bad apples have fallen, the good ones remain!
